CORE Y GANG "yehed mad" Cd (Mass prod)
I saw them live several times, I heard all of their records, and they kept improving. However, I’m still not satisfied. The sound quality is good, the music rages, and the celtic violin gives the band an original touch. But they still sound too much like MELMOR, there’s still not enough violin, and the lyrics are only "decent"... It’s definitely good stuff, I’m just sure they could do even better. ;) www.massprod.com (Y.B.)
-
ADRIFT "to the void" Cd (Mass prod)
For a new unknown french band, this is a nice debut. This punk-Hc band obviously fell in love with TRAGEDY and are trying to sound like them. And although ADRIFT need to find a personality on their own, their sound is pretty good. Let’s see how they evolve. http://www.massprod.com (Y.B.)

BARRICADED SUSPECTS Cd compilation (Dr strange)
DR STRANGE dug out some old obscure Lp that was realeased in the early 80’s. Unfortunately, this is not such a good comp because a lot of different styles are represented on it. Nonetheless there’s definitely some great Hardcore & Punk stuff here, including tracks by MAD PARADE, PILLSBURY HARDCORE (pre-MAN IS THE BASTARD !), BONDED IN UNITY, etc. They should have put it out as a "best off" comp instead ! :) http://www.drstrange.com (Y.B.)
-
URLA DAL GRANDUCATO Cd compilation (Area pirata)
More and more reissues. This is an old Italian compilation featuring 3 bands from 1983. The sound quality is fairly poor, and the first band, WARDOGS, are quite bad ; they play really basic punk-rock. SENZA STERZO are better, and actually quite good. AUFSCHLAG are cool ; they must have been one of the first bands in Italy to play uptempo & raging punk. Was all of this worth reissueing ? http://www.areapirata.com (Y.B.)
-
LUTECE BORGIA "choose" Cd (Self released)
This is the first album by these skinheads from Paris. The music is really typical Oï with raucous vocals and the lyrics deal with life on the streets/in the bars. The digipack’s pretty nice though. http://www.myspace.com/luteceborgia (Y.B.)
-
CONQUEST FOR DEATH "front row tickets to armaggedon" Cd (Waljemac)
I was expecting some great & raging SUICIDAL/EXCEL/CRYPTIC type crossover, kinda like on their first Ep, but I’m a bit disappointed. These ex-WHAT HAPPENS NEXT members sound like WHN gone metal, but they also include more experimental parts to their sound, kinda like ALL YOU CAN EAT did. ;) Not bad, but, I’m left unsatisfied. The lyrics are the same ; they’re great, but more personal and less political than WHN’ ones. http://www.conquestfordeath.com (Y.B.)
-
SMOOTH OUT mCd (Self released)
Got this in the mail from Italy... No lyric sheet, no cover, no band info ! So all I can tell you is these guys play really poppy melodic Hc. They remind me a bit of their fellow countrymen THIS SIDE UP, but sound much more pop. I wouldn’t be surprised if they ended up on GOODWILL, ENGINEER or some major label company. http://www.smoothout.net (Y.B.)
-
AUTONOMIA "escapando al silencio impuesto" Cd (Self-released)
Subtitled "discography 1997-2001", yes, this peruvian political punk band have been around for 10 years already, and a second volume has just come out. This is their early days’ material ; the songs are slightly basic, linear 3 chord punk-rock, and make me think of the RAMONES. They’re pretty good ! Although they could use more variety because there’s 20 tracks to go through ! The main difference with the RAMONES being that AUTONOMIA are from South america and much more politically aware. Their lyrics remind me of SIN DIOS’ ones, they’re sloganistic and fit their music pretty well ! http://www.myspace.com/autonomia06 (Y.B.)
-
DETENTION "expelled" Cd (G.T.A.)
More reissues on G.T.A.. DETENTION were from the Us east-coast and played ok punk-rock, but failed to move me. Their more uptempo songs reminded me a bit of THE DEAD KENNEDYS or THE ADDICTS. Their lyrics were weird ; some of them were quite progressive, while others sounded conservative to me. http://www.myspace.com/grandtheftau... (Y.B.)
-
TRUTH IN MY HANDS "too fast for love" Cd (Step ahead)
The music is good ; typical but fast old school SxE hardcore, with a quite modern sound. The lyrics seem to deal with social issues but are really abstract and don’t really make any sense. Average stuff. http://www.myspace.com/truthinmyhands (Y.B.)
-
MONSTER X "indoctrination" Cd (Hater of god)
Aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh ! At long last ! This discography has been planned for years. All their Ep’s and split Ep’s on one disc. Awesome ! I like the latest material less, because the production is too thick, or... I don’t know. But the early tracks, and that first Ep, damn !!! This is awesome. A must have. Straight-edge grindcore ! I only know 3 other bands like that who have existed in history. http://www.haterofgod.com (Y.B.)
-
LA FRACTION "la vie rêvée" Cd (Mass prod)
One of the best shows I ever saw was LA FRACTION live two years ago in a big squatted place. Their two previous albums were great, this one follows the same line. I would say it sounds a bit more punk, with a less polished sound, and more political lyrics. Speaking of, they are totally awesome ; personal, metaphorical, and socially aware at the same time. The music is still tight melodic punk with melodious female vocals. Excellent stuff. www.massprod.com (Y.B.)
-
AL KAPOTT Cd (Rural)
Hehe, this is one of the first records I ever bought in my life. I saw them live on a French Tv show in 1986, they were all dressed up as cavemen and singing a great song about killing one’s girlfriend. :) Well, 20 years later, this album doesn’t sound as good as it did back then, but I still enjoy it. The cool thing about this digipack is they included all their early compilation tracks, which are totally awesome ! Great typical French chaos-punk/Oï with good lyrics. Then they started listening to MOTORHEAD and decided to sound like them, and their music became less interesting, although faster. I was happy to lay my hands on this. Haaa, nostalgia... youn@freesurf.fr (Y.B.)
-
SEWN SHUT "rediscovering the dead" Cd (Selfmadegod)
I had never heard about this band before, but this is already a discography Cd compiling 5 split Ep’s ! They are a grindcore duo from Sweden. I enjoy grindcore, but this wasn’t too good. I can’t really put my finger on what annoyed me, maybe it was the production. They didn’t include a lyrics sheet, which sounds weird to me because it seems they have things to say ("foreign corporate reorganization", "23 million zombies", "dying world", "night of the long knives"...). I love the cover artwork though, especially the back cover one. http://www.selfmadegod.com (Y.B.)

MASS KRITIK + ZEU DISCOMOBILE + ROCK FORT + ? + DIDIER SUPER, Veynes, 09/06/2007, @ aux arcades (show review)
Damn, could you believe it ? I live in a small village up there in the French mountains, and somebody organized a "punk" show 100 meters away from my house !! All freaks from the area turned up ; hippies, punks, leftists, techno freaks. DIDIER SUPER (singer for ZEU DISCOMOBILE) did an acoustic outdoor show. It was quite funny, although his humour got a bit heavy in the end. Then a ska-reggae band started to play indoors, but I left after a couple songs. ROCK FORT sounded a lot like 70’s heavy metal/ rock bands. ZEU DISCOMOBILE play silly & French punk-rock, and only cover famous pop songs from the 80’s ! I was expectiong more from MASS KRITIK, who were pretty good, but play a weird mix of punk-rock and NyHc. It’s sad their songs were all mid-tempo and never got any faster. Interesting concert. (Y.B.)
-
THE VOIDS "kill a generation" Cd (Dr Strange)
I love female fronted punk bands, but THE VOIDS didn’t really move me. I don’t know, I can’t get into the singer’s voice much, and the music is fairly typical. The artwork is pretty bad, but the lyrics are good. I’ll keep an eye out for them, and try and grab their second album. www.drstrange.com (Y.B.)
-
SILBATO "5.4" mCd (Shove)
Typical emo, from Italy. They could be from France, because they have that French sound (UNDONE, GAMENESS, AGHAST, etc). Not my stuff at all. http://www.shoverecords.com (Y.B.)
-
HEWHOCORRUPTS "the discographer" Cd (Czerwony diabelek)
61 tracks in 64 minutes ! Yes, it’s grindcore, but crazy grindcore, a la LOCUST or GREEN BERET. Fast, technical and goofy. I’m not really into that kind of music, but their early tracks are good. No lyric sheet included, which is sad. http://www.redevilrec.com (Y.B.)
-
DEBELI PRECJEDNIK "through the eyes of the innocent" Cd (Moonlee)
Ho, I didn’t know these guys were still around ! I remember someone taped me one of their first recordings, what, 10 years ago ?? They were awesome ! Super fast melodic hardcore, like BAD RELIGION or NO FX, but without everything that makes these two bands boring. To be honest, most of these bands mellow out with age, and I was expecting some poppy and boring stuff, but they still play fast melodic Hardcore ! Really fast, and versatile. I like it. Fans of BURNING HEADS, LAG WAGON, NITROMINDS or ETERNA INOCENCIA should try and grab this. http://www.moonleerecords.com (Y.B.)
-
CHANG FFOS "Trust this arcane device" Cd (Moonlee)
How is this called ? Sludge, I believe ? Slow, slooowww, super slow and heavy stuff from Croatia. I like some slow stuff, like GRIEF for instance, but CHANG FFOS aren’t really rooted in punk or Hardcore, they include a lot of noisy, heavy, rock riffs instead. Not my style, but fans of the genre won’t be disappointed. No lyric sheet included. http://www.moonleerecords.com (Y.B.)
-
GREENLAND WHALEFISHERS "down and out" (Dead lamb)
This is the latest album by these long running Irish... oops... Norwegian folk-punks. They still sound the same as before, but for whatever reason, I’d say this is their best recording to date. THE POGUES rip-off to the max, and lyrics dealing with daily life and alcohol. http://www.deadlambrecords.com (Y.B.)
-
VUNENY "V2" Cd (Moonlee)
See review below. More instrumental electro/pop/rock from the ex-Yugoslavia ! Put out by people coming from the Hc scene, but the band is probably not related to Hc at all. I never listen to pop music, so I don’t know, probably they sound like PLACEBO, PORTISHEAD, that kind of stuff (??). No lyric sheet included. http://www.moonleerecords.com (Y.B.)
-
BILK "this is radio active" Cd (Moonlee)
Hiiiiiii. Ok, I listen to a really wide variety of styles, but why do I get sent stuff like this ? Maybe because the people behind the label were/are part of the Hc scene ? BILK, from Croatia, play instrumental pop/rock/techno. I don’t know how to label it. Probably this music’s cool if you want to relax or something, but as far as I am concerned, it’s getting on my nerves ! http://www.moonleerecords.com (Y.B.)
-
HEIMATLOS "la seconde nécessaire 1983-1988" 2xCd (Ratbone)
Where do I start ? HEIMATLOS are one of the 3 best bands I’ve ever heard in my life (and Dog knows I heard billions) ! I’m not just saying that because they had one of the best Hc bass players ever (gotta hear it to believe it), but simply because everything about this band was awesome : they were far ahead of their time, playing fast hardcore when everyone else was playing punk-rock. I believe they were the first, or one of the very first French Hardcore bands. They were awesome musicians ; they would not just play thrash (like LÄRM, PANDEMONIUM or RAPT) but also included killer melodies to their music. In a scene in which internet did not exist, they would have contacts all over the planet and write great lyrics (dealing with worldwide political situation) in French, English, German, Spanish or Finnish !! What more can I say ? This stuff is totally essential for you fans of MONSTRUACION, IMPACT, SKEEZICKS, BGK, HHH, L’ODI SOCIAL or MDC. Now onto the bad points : this Cd compiles everything they ever recorded : demos, Ep’s, Lp, live stuff, but comes in a shitty plastic box (they would have deserved a digipack like HHH or SUBTERRANEAN KIDS did !), and the sound quality... pretty much sucks !! This is what sometimes happens when you transfer vinyls onto Cd. The guitars are muffled and it sounds like the singer is lisping. But you get quantity instead of quality, I guess, because this double-Cd is dirt cheap !! Buy 10, and pass them around. http://ratbone.free.fr (Y.B.)

NINE ELEVEN/ M SIXTEEN/ BAXTER, Rennes, 25/05/2007, @ Mondo bizarro (show review)
I had not gone to the Mondo bizarro for two years ! It was nice to see the place is still around, and to see familiar faces around... not !! I think I’m getting old, I just didn’t know anyone in there, although about 80 persons showed up. Damn. And it seems like everyone was wering black clothes, studed belts and converse shoes except me. ;) Well, those three French bands were pretty good. They pretty much sounded the same ; they’re probably influenced by ANTI FLAG, STRIKE ANYWHERE, RIGHT FOR LIFE, GOOD RIDDANCE, LIFETIME and other big fashionable Hc bands. BAXTER, from Tours, play tight melodic Hc with punk-rock influences. They were ok. 9-11 are more "old school" influenced, and consequently, I liked them more. They feature ex-members of NO TIME TO LOSE and sound the same, only more versatile and more melodic. Great stuff ! M 16 were ok too, and remind me a lot of HÜSKER DÜ. (Y.B.)
-
GASTEL7O "indivnd" Cd (Trust)
Geeez, this Cd was sent to me by the people behind URBAN STRIP (see review below). This is no surprise ; GASTEL7O are a russian band playing Nu metal/ post-Hardcore/ moshcore/ rock. They include samples to their music, giving it a really modern sound. No lyrics are included and everything’s written in Russian anyway, but I’d say they’re politically oriented. Obvious influences : RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, DOWNSET, LIMP BIZKIT, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, TOOL,... http://www.gastel7o.com (Y.B.)
-
URBAN STRIP "fight back" Cd (Always at war)
I didn’t know this Russian band was still around ! They put out a split tape with a French band several years ago. The style is the same, maybe a bit better produced ; they play moshcore mixed with nu-metal. Mid-tempo, danceable, metallic stuff with rap singing. I’m sure they dig BIOHAZARD, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, DOWNSET and early 90’s Hc bands like RICOCHET, BROTHER’S KEEPER, SNAPCASE, EARTH CRISIS, etc. Not the kind of stuff I enjoy, but they do it well and sing about social issues. I wish they would sing more songs in their mother-tongue though. http://www.urbanstrip.ru (Y.B.)
-
BLOCKBASTARDS "Dvd live" Cd-r
I saw them live and they were great, so I bought this homeburnt Dvd. It retraces the band history, from 2004 (back when they were playing cover-songs, as a four-piece, in small squats) to 2007 (with a second guitarist, playing faster songs, with more energy on stage). It was a good idea to use 3 tracks from various concerts. It’s funny because you can see their different haircuts from gig to gig ; hahaha. The sound quality ain’t so good, but the video quality is good. Too bad my copy stopped playing after song number 15. :( http://www.myspace.com/blockbastard77 (Y.B.)
-
LUCIEN Cd (Dead lamb)
Swedish well-played and typical punk’n’roll that will appeal to fans of TURBONEGRO, ZEKE, TV MEN, maybe even MOTORHEAD. Lyrics deal with sweat, blood, fear and rock’n’roll. Weird band name, though. http://www.deadlambrecords.com (Y.B.)
-
AL KE NO LE GUSTE KE SE JODA Cd (Chinaski)
Typical spanish punk-rock. Maybe a bit faster than most. These guys should be on WC records ! What else can, I say ? This ain’t bad, I’ve just heard it a thousand times before. chinaskipub@ozu.es (Y.B.)
-
CONDEMNED 2 DEATH "you can’t kill a vatrat" Cd (G.T.A.)
Awesome comp by GTA again. This is a beautiful discography by this San Francisco based early Hc band (1983-84) : 39 tracks (1 Ep, 1 mLp, 1 demo + live), good sound quality, nice booklet featuring some of the lyrics + biography of the band. These guys played typical old style Hardcore with manic drumming, along the lines of SSD, CIRCLE JERKS, BLACK FLAG, OFFENDERS, MDC, etc. Their first Ep is totally awesome. Unfortunately, like many bands of that time, like SSD or WOLFPACK for instance, they quickly dropped the Hc stuff to play rock (or metal, or pop, in this case, it’s rock). Some members later went on to form VERBAL ABUSE and DEATH SENTENCE ! http://www.myspace.com/grandtheftau... (Y.B.)
-
MARSHCRANNIES "insert coin" Cd (Tpzshit)
Spanish melodic Hardcore. 2nd album. They’re pretty good, but a thousand bands have played that kind of music before. Decent/average lyrics, good sound quality, awful cover artwork. Nothing special. http://www.tpzshitrecordings.cjb.net (Y.B.)
-
POLITICAL ASYLUM "winter" Cd (Passing bells)
Early days discography Cd, put out by the guys behind MANIFESTO JUKEBOX, who’re big fans of the band. POLITICAL ASYMLUM, whom most of you must have forgotten (or never heard of) were an excellent, although really poppy, Scottish anarcho-punk band from the 80’s. They released two awesome albums. They stood really apart from the traditional punk scene, because they wrote political, and moreover very pacifist lyrics. They also didn’t wear like punks of that time, and played really poppy music. But they were great ! They were different, and that’s one of the reasons why they were cool. The tracks on this Cd are far from being their best, it’s mostly average versions of songs they’d later re-record with a better production and musicianship. The Ep is good, and so is their wonderful third demo "walls have ears". passingbells@hotmail.com (Y.B.)
-
BOYCOT "total boycot 1995-2000" Cd (Angry records)
Damn, 48 songs, 8 split Ep’s !! Super fast chaotic punk from Holland, like, imagine DISORDER or CHAOS UK on speed. OLHO DE GATO maybe, too ? The early tracks don’t move me much, but the later ones are great. The lyric are cool, too. http://www.angelfire.com/ne/angry (Y.B.)
-
LOVE SONGS "all branches no trunk" Cd (625)
Stupid band name, huh ? This band features ex-members of ALL YOU CAN EAT and it shows : versatile Californian melodic & goofy Hardcore, mixing the sound of early LOOKOUT RECORDS’ bands with stuff like like CRIMPSHRINE, LIFE’S HALT, STIKKY, ILL REPUTE, etc. Yeah, they’re hard to classify. As for lyrics, they come in a funny little booklet, it’s a bit like reading COMETBUS fanzine or RKL’s booklets (though not as good). They deal with personal and love stories. They aren’t too stupid, although I’m not into that kind of stuff, but actually wished all love songs in the world were like those ! http://www.625thrash.com (Y.B.)
-
WE’RE GONNA FIGHT #8 fanzine (in English)
Sorry I took ages to review this one. Issue 9 is out already ! Pretty thick French zine, written in English, and dealing mostly with "exotic" or "third world" scenes. Lots of punk-rock, Oi and old school Hardcore stuff here : RETAQUE (Equator), LECSA PUNK (Hungary), PRO PIRACY distro (Indonesia), DIRTY SHOES records (Philippines), tons of scene reports (Malaysia, Slovak rep, France, Argentina, Philippines, Iran) and reviews (zines, records, cassettes). + a couple columns dealing with personal stuff and religion. The editor is not afraid to call people on their shit. This is a must get ! http://xwgfx.free.fr (Y.B.)
-
MOSKWA "moskwa" 2xCd (Dywizja kot)
Damn ! And I thought everything that had to be reissued had already been done ! There’s still a couple gems here and there rotting in attics and waiting for someone to dig them up and transfer them onto discs. MOSKWA are one of the most famous, and one of the first, Polish punk bands. They played uptempo punk with maybe a couple metal influences, not unlike DISCHARGE or BROKEN BONES. One Cd features their first album, plus several awesome bonus tracks, and the other Cd is full of photos and videos. Did I mention the booklet ? This is a great piece of international punk history ! http://moskwa.prv.pl (Y.B.)
-
NO VIOLENCE "invencivel" mCd (Refuse)
This was a posthumous release unfortunately. This awesome Brazilian band had been around since 1989 !! But they never released a lot of records, my favourite ones being their Ep on SOUND POLLUTION and the cassette that came out in the mid-90’s. The production on this one is perfect, but the music is much faster ; 17 tracks in 14 minutes, the longest track being 1’30 minute long !! Fast, tight and crazy thrashcore similar to I SHOT CYRUS (whom they shared members with), INTENSE DEGREE (whom they covered) or HERESY. This is great stuff, but thrashcore has never been my favourite music style. Such good musicians could have played much more varied songs including melodies or tempo changes, instead of playing just... noise (ha ha). They will be missed. http://www.refuserecords.prv.pl (Y.B.)
-
TRAUMATIC "punk revenge" Cd (Area pirata)
This Italian band had been around since 1979 !!! This Cd features their 1998 album, as well as 10 live tracks recorded in 1980. That’s definitely a document of the Italian punk scene, unfortunately, I don’t like it much. They play slightly basic punk, that’s neither hardcore nor melodic. At times, they remind me a bit of THE SEX PISTOLS or THE STOOGES. Not really worth reissueing. http://www.areapirata.com (Y.B.)
-
ABDUKTIO "discography 2001-2004" Cd (Old skool kids)
I really wanted to like this band. I like the band-name, and the artwork is beautiful. Since they’re from Finland, I was naively expecting some crustcore or fast punk ; no such thing here. They fit well on OLD SKOOL KIDS because they sound like several modern Hardcore bands on this label (DEVIL SHOOTS DEVIL, WHEN MY AUTHORITIES FALL, ARGUMENT 5.45...). There’s some fast punk-Hc parts, but also some slower emo-rock riffs, and terrible screaming vocals that I can’t get past. They sing in Finnish, which is definitely cool, and their sound is quite original ; that’s a plus. But I didn’t enjoy it. http://www.oskrecords.com (Y.B.)
-
KAFKA "our memories are only tales" Cd (No !)
Subtitled "restropettiva 1994-2002". This Italian band put out a lot of split records, so it’s cool to be able to hear them all on one disc. KAFKA are (were ?) one of the best "new school" Hardcore bands. Lots of tempo changes, mosh parts, fast parts, and high-pitched screaming vocals. But they were always powerful, always hardcore, with a good attitude and nice lyrics. 72 minutes of music is a bit hard to take (especially because of the vocals), but there’s some really good tracks on this Cd. http://www.kafka.it (Y.B.)
-
LOST GENERATION "punk this !" Cd (GTA)
East coast US punk from the 80’s, started in 1981 and split up in 91. This is one typical example of those bands that started off playing excellent, original and raging punk, but ended up playing boring metal, pop, or psychedelic rock (in this case, by 1986 they would play more technical/rock oriented material). There’s a biography, flyers, and record covers reprinted in the booklet. It’s sad they only included the lyrics for the first Ep though. Totally decent stuff. http://www.myspace.com/grandtheftau... (Y.B.)
-
ORGAN GRINDER mCd-r demo (Megator)
Oops... took a long time to review this one (sorry). ORGAN GRINDER is a new grindcore band from Lyon, France. I believe this is their first demo, and it comes in a cute mini-Disc format. They play typical grindcore, with some Hc influences. They aren’t bad at all, but I’d like to hear those songs with a better production. Some lyrics deal with social matters, while others deal with gore or horror movies. Keep an eye out for them. nespapa@yahoo.fr (Y.B.)
-
AHUMADO GRANUJO "chemical holocaust" Cd (Khaaranus)
Czech gore-grind with extreme gutural vocals. Very metal too, but a couple techno samplers here and there make it sound a bit original, and the DISRUPT cover gives them an extra bonus point. I like it alright. No lyric sheet included though, ...too bad. http://khaaranus.wz.cz (Y.B.)
-
MADELEINE "boy = man" Cd (Engineer)
Nice and gentle indie pop from the Uk. Well played but super boring stuff in the PIXIES, COLDPLAY, RADIOHEAD, REM vein. Uninteresting lyrics of course. http://www.engineerrecords.com (Y.B.)
-
SATURDAY NIGHT HEROES Cd-R
What’s this, a Cd-R copy of their upcoming album ? This newly formed Canadian band already play really tight melodic Hc with a clean production. They sound like a mix between PROPAGANDHI and GREEN DAY, and would fit really well on a label like BOSS TUNEAGE. I would not be surprised to see them in the charts in a couple years. No lyric sheet included, just a biography and band photos. http://www.saturdaynightheroes.com (Y.B.)
-
RF7 "all you can eat, volume 2" Cd (GTA)
They’ve been around since 1979(??) And I don’t think I had ever heard any of their records ! They had a quite typical Californian punk-Hc sound, mixing punk-rock, Hardcore, melodic Hc, and rock’n’roll too. Kinda like TSOL, CIRCLE JERKS, BAD RELIGION or SOCIAL DISTORTION. Some songs are good, but most didn’t do it for me. Personal and a bit hateful lyrics. http://www.myspace.com/grandtheftau... (Y.B.)
-
BLOCKBASTARDS + ASS’N’DICK + PORCA MISERIA, 02/04/2007, Le Percy (France), @ salle des fetes (show review)
It was nice to see a show again after a quiet winter. Not too many people turned up, but the atmosphere was good. PORCA MISERIA are a new band from Saint-Etienne, France, with a Spanish female singer. I believe they sing in Spanish, which is cool by me. Their punk-rock is really basic, though, but not bad either. ASS’N’DICK, despite a stupid band name (it’s a pun, for you non-french speakers), were a good surprise ; they play a varied mix of Hardcore, crust, noisy, and were quite powerful indeed. Not bad. BLOCKBASTARD hail from our planet’s Hardcore heaven : spain. With a name like this, I was expecting some boring unoriginal dis-beat crust-punk, but no such thing ! They play uptempo and raging punk-Hardcore, quite similar to AGROTOXICO, POISON IDEA, maybe even GBH as well. Great stuff, full of energy and power. All band-members looked enthusiastic and seemed to live their thing to the full, which was nice to see. (Y.B.)
-
FOR THE DAY "sofa so good" Cd (Samuel)
I like melodic Hc with raucous vocals. I enjoy JAWBREAKER, LEATHERFACE and THE JONES, but FOR THE DAY are such blatant copycats of the aforementioned bands that I’d rather stick to the originals, if you don’t mind. http://www.samuelrecords.net (Y.B.)
-
THIS SYSTEM KILLS/ VIKTIMS Split Cd (Mass prod)
THIS SYSTEM KILLS took me by surprise. They feature ex-IN THE SHIT people, but don’t really sound like them. Sure, they still play powerful punk with Hc hints, but the vocals have gone melodic (and raucous). This gives them an original touch, bringing to mind stuff like early LEATHERFACE for instance. VIKTIMS play more typical, but good and super-powerful punk-crust. The production is much better than on their previous releases. Hey, where’s the goddamn lyric sheet, guys ?!? http://www.massprod.com (Y.B.)
