GASMASK TERROR "ruins… and then ?" Demo tape
6 track demo by this new band from Bordeaux, France, featuring members of FACE UP TO IT and ( ?ÖPSTAND maybe ?). I had enjoyed them live, but was slightly disappointed by this studio recording (or rehearsal ?), as the sound is a bit muffled. It’s still decent dis-beat, crusty-punk stuff with average & typical dis-lyrics. See concert-review below. nightbrings@yahoo.com (Y.B.)

INSIDE CONFLICT "unearthed from wonderland" Cd (Overcome)
I’m disappointed. I saw them live two or three times a few years ago, and they were a good mix of grindcore and heavy breakdowns. They sounded pretty nice and played good, fun live shows. This album sounds like a total death metal or death-grind release. Nothing more. It’s good for what it is, but there is no hardcore, NyHc or grind/thrash in here. Only metal. The layout is cool, there’s an hour of music, a powerful sound, and dark, negative, silly metal lyrics. http://www.overcomerecords.com (Y.B.)

TROUBLE EVERYDAY + 86 IT + ACTIONS FALL SHORT, Rennes (France), 08/05/2004, @ Mondo bizarro (show review)
3 new French bands, and 3 bands playing old school Hardcore at that ! TROUBLE EVERYDAY, from Nantes, were a nice surprise. They play Hardcore with a lot of original riffs and parts, they remind me a bit of CRIMPSHRINE or other LOOKOUT records’ bands. I think they cover BLACK FLAG too. 86 IT (from Amiens) also play Hardcore, with a more emo approach. The faster songs were good ! ACTIONS FALL SHORT’s demo was great, and live they were pretty cool too. They play fast old school Hc. By the way, how come all these kids wear black clothes and studded belts ? (Y.B.)

PSEUDO HEROES "prison of a small perception" Cd promo (Go kart)
Nice surprise. Great versatile melodic Hc from the Us. The music’s tight and powerful, this ain’t inane melodic Hc like most bands on EPITAPH or FAT WRECK play. And to add up on this, they have guest appearances by famous vocalists like John Stabb (GOVERNMENT ISSUE), Jerry A. (POISON IDEA), Lee Dorian (NAPALM DEATH), Dave Smalley (courtesy of Conservative punx.inc ?), etc. Pretty good stuff. Too bad my promo-copy didn’t come with a lyric sheet. Currently on tour all over Europe (June 2004). http://www.gokartrecords.com (Y.B.)

COMME UNIQUE n°2, feuille d’info (in French)
4 pages d’écrits, opinions, coups de gueules sur la politique en général : misanthropie, liberté sexuelle, végétarisme, politique… Plutôt sympa. [David, 20 rue de Châtillon, 35000 Rennes, France] (Y.B.)

DISBEER "kids in satanic service" Cd (Devils records)
This is their second album, and I think they put out two Eps before as well. I don’t know if it’s the production, but I was surprised at how old school Hc they sound. They’re still France’s own metal-punk/ raw dis-beat/ Scandinavian band, bringing to mind ANTI CIMEX, MOTORHEAD, and all those DISTORTION records’ outfits. The lyrics deal with drugs, alcohol and rock’n’roll. Not bad at all. disbeer@hotmail.com (Y.B.)

DENAK "grindcore" Cd (Cooperaccion)
Holy shit ! 40 tracks in 47 minutes ! DENAK are a spanish chaotic grindcore band. They play fast, non-metallic, unrelenting grind with guttural vocals and mostly socially aware lyrics. To be honest I was expecting something better as many people had told me they were awesome live. And let’s face it, 40 tracks are a bit too much to take in a row. http://www.euskalnet.net/scoty (Y.B.)
-
VENEREAL DISEASE "mondo macabre" Cd (Basque grind foundation)
This crazy Basque band plays relentless total destructo-gore-grind, it’s fast, it’s powerful, they have those silly guttural vocals, they cover a couple Hc bands… if you like the style get this ! basquegrind@hotmail.com (Y.B.)
-
HHM "happy home-makers" Cd-R demo
First demo, decent sound quality, ok artwork (hey, the lyrics are printed much too small !). HHM studio recordings sure won’t live up to their live performances, since they’re so funny and always dress up or disguise in Wonder-women, in wedding dresses or whatever. But it’s still a fairly good demo, especially the first two tracks as well as the last one. http://www.hhm.fr.fm (Y.B.)

PALANTIME + J’AURAIS VOULU + HORS CONTROLE, 01/05/2004, Rennes (France), @ le Mondo bizarro (show review)
…Got in too late for PALANTIME (sorry guys), and was disappointed by J’AURAIS VOULU ; their albums are pretty good, and I was pleasantly surprised to notice they now have a real drummer (instead of a drum machine). But the sound quality was fairly bad (too much drums, not enough guitars), and all the nice guitar solos fell flat without a rhythm guitar to back them up. It was ok, but overall too dull. HORS CONTROLE were good. They’re a totally basic Oï band from France, with a drum machine, one guitar, one bass, and really basic lyrics about politics, beer, streetfights and friendship. Oh, and did I tell you about those oh-oh’s and Oï !’s in between each line ? The audience loved them, and I have to admit they were pretty funny. Nice band, decent show, lots of local left-wing skins. (Y.B.)

HHM + RIGHT FOR LIFE + NEVROTIC EXPLOSION + RUBBER CITY REBELS + POISON IDEA, 30/04/2004, Saint-Brieuc (France) @ Le Wagon (show review)
This was one of the best shows I had ever seen in my life ! Le Wagon is one of the best places in the world for shows, people there rule, the bands ruled, and 600 people got packed in this place without any problem, just big smiles on everybody’s faces !
-
LECSA PUNK + KINPPA KC, 27/04/2004, Rennes (France), @ Mondo bizarro (show review)
3 euros only, and two fairly good surprises ; KINPPA KC are a new female-fronted local band, they play pretty powerful technical Hardcore reminiscent of bands like VICTIMS FAMILY, MANNEQUIN’S BEACH, NO MEANS NO, etc. Especially VICTIMS FAMILY. Not bad. LECSA PUNK hail from Hungary, and you don’t get to see a lot of East European bands around here. They play really basic but powerful punk similar to G.B.H. (whom they even cover). Not bad either. (Y.B.)
-
LOS FASTIDIOS + SKUDS & PANIC PEOPLE, 22/04/2002, Rennes (France), @ Le mondo bizarro (show review)
We arrived a bit late and missed most of the SKUDS (local ska-core band), they sounded ok although the audience remained still… I had heard an old LOS FASTIDIOS Lp which I didn’t like, but live, these old timers kicked ass. Ok, they’re a really cliché Oï band, but they’re great musicians and look like dedicated people. Some of their faster songs almost sound Hardcore, and they have lyrics about women’s rights, animal rights – not bad for a skinhead band, uh ? (Y.B.)

DEAD LETTER DEPT "anthology Uk" Cd (Noo Noo)
Nice melodic hardcore from Canada. Sounds a bit like LEATHERFACE minus the raucous vocals, or like a lot of EPITAPH/ FAT WRECK bands. This compilation features all their early records (20 tracks). No lyric sheet was included, but a list of websites to check out. deadletterdept@hotmail.com (Y.B.)
-
SHOCK TREATMENT/ BOOTER split Ep (Peste & cholera)
I saw BOOTER live a few days ago, and thought they were pretty good… live, but I’m not a fan of this style of music, so I didn’t enjoy this Ep much. Noisy-Hardcore that would fit well on VERMIFORM, DISCHORD or AMPHETAMINE NOISE records. SHOCK TREATMENT play a weird mix of experimental music, emo, Hc, melodic rock, jazz, whatever. Not bad, but not my style. Good sound quality, and mostly personal lyrics for both bands. peste.cholera@wanadoo.fr (Y.B.)
-
FTX "life is too short" mCd (Lof)
"Old school" and "France" don’t mix. There has almost never been any old school Hc bands in France. One day a friend of mine came in and brought this FTX Cd ; I had never heard of the band before, I put it in the player and… wow ! Fast music, tight music, great production, damn, this is a great Cd. Ok, it’s a blatant "Swedish Hardcore" rip-off (MISCONDUCT, WITHIN REACH, RAISED FIST, 59 TIMES THE PAIN…), and they "forgot" to include a lyric sheet, but hey, it’s a French band so don’t expect them to be perfect ! ;) ftx.dom@wanadoo.fr (Y.B.)
-
PUTRID SCUM "premonitions of war" Cd (Algo discos)
This name sounds familiar, but I didn’t know they were from Mexico. They must have quite a few records under their belt, because this Cd features a demo (from 1989 ?), a split Ep, as well as 15 live tracks recorded in 2002 ! The sound quality is pretty good overall, but not really powerful. PUTRID SCUM play typical grind with faster parts and heavier/ hardcore ones. No lyric sheet provided, but a booklet with photos and political slogans. putridscum@terra.com.mx (Y.B.)
-
CRAFT "inmookwecrust" Cd (Mass prod)
I believe this French band has found its own personality nowadays ; when I last saw them live I was quite impressed by their powerful punk-Hc-metal mix. I was slightly disappointed by this Cd, but I’ve never been a fan of punk & metal hybrids anyway. If you dig DISCHARGE, DISBEER, BACCHUS TEMPLE ADDICTS or even TRAGEDY and early NEUROSIS, you should like this. Nice negative social lyrics. http://www.massprod.com (Y.B.)

GASMASK TERROR + BOOTER + FACE UP TO IT, Angers (France), 10/04/2004, @ l’Etincelle (show review)
Damn, I was getting tired after three shows in three days. As often with shows in Angers or Nantes, few people turn out (60 ?) and most come from outer towns. GASMASK TERROR were a great surprise ! They play uptempo, raw dis-punk reminiscent of ANTI CIMEX, DISCHARGE or EXTREME NOISE TERROR. They were great. BOOTER are a noisy-Hc band from Angers ; I’m not a fan of noisy stuff, but they’re pretty powerful and original, and they were ok. I had heard good things about FACE UP TO IT, and they were good, especially because the audience was so into them. They’re old scenesters playing old school Hc a la MINOR THREAT. They were cool, but I was expecting something even better. (Y.B.)
-
FLEAS & LICE + RIITSETYT + BACCHUS TEMPLE ADDICTS + DRUG DEALERS, Rennes (France), 09/04/2004, @ Jardin moderne (Show review)
It’s so rare to have true punk shows in Rennes, and indeed many people had come from other towns ; quite a small turn-out, but still over 100 people. BACCHUS TEMPLE ADDICTS played first, I hadn’t seen them live in a long time, and although I have never been a fan of the band, their show was pretty good. They feature ex-members of MASS MURDERERS and sound like them, maybe more metal. If you like MÖTÖRHEAD for instance... DRUG DEALERS are the same people plus an English singer playing punk-Hc with rock’n’roll roots. They’re pretty fun, although they were not disguised this time. FLEAS AND LICE still play fast chaotic punk with dual vocals. Last year I had enjoyed them quite a bit, but this time around they were "sober", and consequently less funny. RIITSETYT are a long-running Finnish punk-Hc band. They started back in 1983 or something. I’m not a huge fan of Finnish dis-core ; one song is great, two songs is good, three songs is ok, ten songs gets boring. See my point ? (Y.B.)
-
NEVROTIC EXPLOSION + RIGHT FOR LIFE, Rennes (France), 08/04/2004, @ Mondo bizarre (Show review)
This was my first "private show" ever. :) It was organized for the release party of the new NEVROTIC EXPLOSION album, on a fairly big label. Most local V.I.P.’s (Very Important Punks) turned up which made for a friendly show, maybe even too friendly as few people danced. Both bands have been a round for quite some time, and they’re truly great musicians. RIGHT FOR LIFE play tight old school Hc, they got an awesome drummer, and NEVROTIC EXPLOSION play tight punk-rock like a more energetic THE CLASH. Totally awesome. And nice people too ! By the way, there were too many smokers inside the place, and I hate to get back home with my clothes stinking ! (Y.B.)

MEDIOCRITY #2 fanzine
Another zine I took ages to review, and it’s sad because it’s a great one. MEDIOCRITY comes from Malaysia and features poems (urgh !), scene reports (France and Thailand), reviews (mostly asian stuff which is cool), and pretty good interviews with MASSLAKT (dis-punk, from Scandinavia ?), UNITED BY FATE (Asian Hc ?), STUNT FACE (melodic Hc-punk from Wales), SECRET 7 (thrashcore from Singapore). xjackandsallyx@hotmail.com (Y.B.)

SLUG’N’LETTUCE #78 fanzine
Damn, Christine is still at it after all these years, making SLUG’N’LETTUCE one of the longest running punk zines in the world. It hasn’t changed ; you still get dozens of columns, including Christine’s heartfelt ones, crammed with live photos, ads, and millions, no, trillions of book, zine and record reviews. This is an awesome zine. Buy 10, and send them out to your friends. chris1slug@hotmail.com (Y.B.)

MAKE MENTION OF SIGHT cd-r demo (Kawaii)
This new French label distributes the first demo by this Japanese old school SxE band. They’re quite decent, although very cliché. The sound is ok, the music is slightly melodic (I like the UNIT PRIDE cover more), the lyrics, as always with japanese bands, are quite impossible to understand but mostly deal with personal concerns. Decent stuff. dc.fury@wanadoo.fr (Y.B.)
-
MONONOKE #1 fanzine (in French)
Dispo contre 3€. dc.fury@wanadoo.fr (Y.B.)

THE MAD THRASHERS + DISRUPTIVE ELEMENT, 27/03/2004, Hennebont (France), @ Le Djoulse
Hennebont is lost in the deep south of Brittany so I was wondering what kind of audience this show would draw. But since THE MAD THRASHERS & DISRUPTIVE ELEMENT are locals, all their friends were there, squeezed up in this small place, and they soon went nuts ! THE MAD THRASHERS ruled as always. The sound could have been better, but it was good nevertheless ; they’re great musicians, they write political as well as totally goofy songs ; they’re fun. This was a one-time reunion show for DISRUPTIVE ELEMENT, who put out a bunch of records back in the 90’s. I was surprised to notice people still remembered their songs & lyrics. It was a wild show, the band ruled, the atmosphere was nice & friendly ; we had a great time ! (Y.B.)

CORE Y GANG + LA REPLIK + ZARUB, 26/03/2004, Rennes (France), @Mondo bizarro (show review)
CORE Y GANG got on the bill at the last minute, but it is always a pleasure to see them live as I totally enjoy their brand of powerful celtic punk (with a violin). I had never heard LA REPLIK before. Some people labelled them as "java-punk", and they label themselves as "acoustic punk". This later description fits them well. A lot of 80’s French "alternative" bands came to mind, such as LOS CARAYOS, HOT PANTS, LES ENDIMANCHES, and I was pleasantly surprised. LA REPLIK play socially aware punk played with "non-punk" instruments, such as a banjo, an accordion, a double bass, etc. They even covered CAMERA SILENS and BERURIER NOIR, which was fun. The last band was a typical hippie band playing dub, or reggae-dub. I’ve never liked dub much, but their most energetic songs were pretty good. Nice show. (Y.B.)
-
ADJUDGEMENT "at two o’clock" Cd (PCS)
This german band has been around for a while, because I remember they put out a couple Cds on LOST’N’FUCKED (or was it WE BITE ?). They still play New York Hardcore, but have found their own personality adding noisy elements to it. The production is good, the music is tight, the artwork is pretty nice, the lyrics deal with social issues (in an introspective way) ; all in all this makes for a decent Cd. http://www.pcs.rockt.de (Y.B.)
-
VOETSEK Cd-r
Ok, so I believe this is the Cd-r version of their upcoming Lp on SIX WEEKS records, right ? I had never heard of this band before, although they’re already touring Europe this summer. They’re pretty cool ! The lyrics aren’t included but they seem to play to-the-point political thrashcore, with screaming & hateful female vocals. They sound a lot like a faster FAST TIMES. Give it a try ! http://www.karaterex.com/voetsek (Y.B.)

RADIKAL SATAN + ANACHARSIS CLOOTS, Rennes (France), 24/03/2004, @ l’Ekluserie (show review)
L’Ekluserie is a political squat full of hippies. Hordes of hippies. This said, they have managed to organize quite a few activities there, and since they’re gonna be evicted soon, they’ve put on quite a few shows. I had heard RADIKAL SATAN were a "free-jazz" or jazzy-punk band. No such thing. They were an experimental band. Period. They included influences ranging from jazz, industrial, noisy, anything. Definitely not my style. Records by bands like ANACHARSIS CLOOTS bore me, but live they’re usually pretty cool, and I have to admit they were really quite decent. They’re excellent musicians, and nice people too. Musically they didn’t sound too original to me and brought to mind bands like SUMISSION HOLD, CRASS, THE EX, RECUSANT, HEADACHE, etc. (Y.B.)
-
KTS + CORE Y GANG + ? + ? + ? + ? + ?, Rennes (France), 20/03/2004, @ la Villa
This was one of the most incredible shows I have ever witnessed ! Many of my friends told me they didn’t know whether is was a real concert, or if they were shooting a new Mad max movie. First, that huge squat is run by artists, the neighbourhood is in ruins but the place itself is clean and funnily arranged. Lots of people turned up and everyone got drunk (or drugged) pretty soon. In the middle of the place they had installed a ring and after a couple bands, people starting organizing wrestling fights. Everyone was losing control, it was totally crazy ! As for bands, they were ok ; KTS from Paris are a basic but decent Oï/punk-rock band. A powerful, noisy, almost industrial band played next (and masked). Then I think two metalcore/Nu-metal bands played and they were good musicians so it was okay. A new punk-rock band from St-Brieuc played, they had a female singer that made them sound a bit like HEYOKA. CORE Y GANG ruled the place with their great brand of celtic punk (MELMOR rip-off), and JAMES BROWN HIDE SHOW (Paris basic grindcore) played last, at about 4 AM. They were goofy and quite funny but we were getting really tired ! (Y.B.)
-
HK/ PLEDGE ALLIANCE split Cd (Impure muzik)
Those two bands fit pretty well together as they both play modern, intricate Hc. HK, from France, sound much more noisy than on their first Cd, and they use a lot of offbeat rhythms too. PLEDGE ALLIANCE are more on the metal side of things. Their poetical and introspective lyrics deal with social issues, the sound quality is good for both bands, and the packaging is ace ! http://www.impuremuzik.com (Y.B.)
-
STRIKE BACK Cd-r demo
For a demo this looks really professional, it’s sad they didn’t go as far as printing a real Cd. The layout is nice, the sound is great, my copy didn’t come with a lyric sheet, but I know they deal with personal and kinda social issues. STRIKE BACK are a new metalcore/ NyHc band from Grenoble, France, they say they are influenced by POINT OF NO RETURN, ARKANGEL, CALIBAN and it shows. Not bad… PS : they’ve just changed their name to STILL RISE because another band from Paris was also using STRIKE BACK. http://site.voila.fr/strikeback38 (Y.B.)
-
HORDE OF ZOMBIE cd-r demo
Damn, they’ve only been around for a few months and have already recorded for this demo. The sound is really average, the layout sucks, there’s no lyric sheet included,… but I think they don’t care ! :) HORDE OF ZOMBIE is one of those grind/noise bands with some totally goofy lyrics, and some political ones. From France… xjibex@hotmail.com (Y.B.)
-
EMPATHY "burning from the inside" (Genet)
Belgian H8000-crew metal with some New York and maybe a couple new school Hc influences. The production is good but this is just one band amongst millions… http://www.genetrecords.com (Y.B.)
-
REVIVE "what is your answer ?" mCd (Still believe)
Geez, took me a long time to review this one. REVIVE are a new old school Hc band from Paris. There are so few Hardcore bands in France that it’s quite good news to see them have a Cd out on a foreign label. REVIVE are ok. Their music is still pretty basic, not too fast, and the lyrics deal with social and personal matters. This is a decent first Cd but it won’t change the face of Hardcore either. http://www.stillbelieverecords.com (Y.B.)
-
MADEE "songs from Cydonia" Cd (Bcore)
Geez, maybe B-CORE should consider taking the "core" off their name, cos all the bands they sign these days are so mellow and commercial. MADEE remind me of 80’s pop bands, with a couple melancholic and noisy riffs added. Why bother buying a Cd now ? You’ll hear them all the time on the radio in 3 years. http://www.bcoredisc.com (Y.B.)
-
HAPPY KOLO "une fille dans chaque port, un porc dans chaque ville" Cd (Mass prod)
I’ve never been a big HAPPY KOLO fan, I saw them live two times and heard their first cd, but this live album was quite a good surprise ; the sound is great and makes the song much more energetic. They play tight & basic French punk-rock with a couple ska parts and dual vocals. There’s a big booklet, but no lyric sheet printed. http://www.massprod.com (Y.B.)
-
MISCONDUCT + CONTRA LEGEM, Rennes (France), 12/03/2004, @ Mondo bizarre (show review)
Rennes is definitely not a town for old school Hardcore, so I was surprised to see about 100-120 people turned up. CONTRA LEGEM played a good show, although the audience remained still. They have improved a lot over the years and are now great musicians. They play fairly original mid-tempo old school Hc. I saw MISCONDUCT in the same place 2 years ago, and thought they were just "ok". This new show was much more energetic and the sound quality awesome ; they kicked ass ! The audience loved it. The music was great, but let’s face it ; these guys are a bit pathetic, rehashing all the old school clichés like ; finger pointing, singalongs, ho-ho’s, blah blah blah. They’ve just taken the best elements in all the old school Hc fames, and built a band out of them. Cliché, but well done. (Y.B.)
-
BREIZH DISORDER festival, St Brieuc (France), 06/03/2004, @ Le wagon (show review)
I was holding a stall outside (in the freezing cold) and didn’t get to see the opening bands. I got in for CONTRA LEGEM, who played a great show, and play tight mid-tempo old school Hardcore. I had heard good things about COMMANDO BANANE, but was disappointed by their really rock’n’roll sounding punk-rock. 103 POGO are an original Oï band playing acoustic Oï, the audience seemed to love them, and I have to admit they were quite funny. I don’t agree with all of their lyrics, but they’re pretty good. It was weird to see a pure rap band at a "punk" festival, but BIG BROTHERS were pretty good. They play non-poppy, non-melodic rap with kinda socially aware lyrics. They were cool, maybe not Hardcore enough for my tastes. (Y.B.)
-
LOUDTONE + BUNKUM + ANTIBODY + BAD NASTY + CONFLICT, St Brieuc (France), 28/02/2004, @ le Wagon (show review)
Imagine 500 drunk punks in a huge squat partying all night ! LOUDTONE are a local band, they’re only starting so their political punk-Hc ain’t too tight, but some songs, especially the ska-punk songs, were pretty decent. BUNKUM were not supposed to play on that show, but they were a great surprise. They’re a pure New York Hc/ moshcore band playing tight, powerful and non metallic (thank Dog) NyHc along the lines of BACKLASH, FOUND MY DIRECTION, etc etc, you know, before NyHc got swallowed up by heavy metal. ANIBODY kicked ass. What can I say ? I love them ! Their singer rules, and they played their songs so fast they almost sounded like an old school Hc bad ! I was disappointed by BAD NASTY because I had heard a lot of good things about them ; they’re an average spikey-punk band playing average ’82 type punk. Well... CONFLICT ; I don’t know this band much, only a couple albums, and I have to admit they were pretty great ! Most bands only have one charismatic leader, but CONFLICT, Jesus, all of the band members have a personality on their own and a lot of charisma. I enjoyed them and so did many people, even though they started playing at 2 AM ! Lots of friendly pogo and lots of beer helped fight off the cold. (Y.B.)
-
HARUM SCARUM "live in Slovenija" Cassette (NNNW)
Decent tape recorded in 2000 during their first European tour. The sound quality could have been better, but it’s still pretty decent. Interesting Portand-based punk/ anarcho-punk with political lyrics. http://www.nnnw.pl (Y.B.)
-
CHIMAERA "passion sets the killing" Cd (Genet)
This one’s not bad. CHIMAERA are a blegian metal band, but contrary to many of them, they don’t seem to include any Hardcore elements in their music/ attitudes/ lyrics. They even wear MANOWAR shirts ! The music is good, tight & varied heavy metal with lots of solos and dark lyrics about Satan, Hell, and killing people. Oh, they exclusively play on Adams drums and shop at II music center. Well, I only wear Calvin Klein underwear and use Parker pens. Does anyone care ? http://www.genetrecords.com (Y.B.)
-
JASON "odeia eu" Cd (Tamborete)
I had never heard of this band before, and a few months ago I received 3 albums in the same package ! JASON hail from Brazil, and we all know brazilian bands are good. Indeed, JASON play pretty good mid-tempo old school Hc. I wish they would play faster though. The production is good, the lyrics seem to deal with personal issues, and the covers of their records are quite weird/funny. Decent stuff. I have this mail but it doesn’t seem to work anylonger : jason@domain.com.br (B.R.)
-
FUTURO INCIERTO "picnic" Cd (Amanecer)
Wow ! It’s nice to see this peruvian band is still around after all these years ! They’re probably one of the oldest south-american Hc bands, and it seems like they’re still true to themselves ; melodic positive Hc, somewhere in between 7 SECONDS, THIS SIDE UP, GREEN DAY… I enjoyed this album quite a bit. The lyrics are in the socio-personal vein. http://www.futuroincierto.com (Y.B.)
-
YOUNGANG "il santo" Cd
I believe this is their first album ? The cover is really ugly, but wow, this skinhead band quotes some Duruti, claims the record is non-copyrighted, and they have anarchist signs all over their back cover ! And I was indeed surprised by the lyrics, as they consider themselves "apolitical". But maybe for them being neither right-wing nor left-wing makes them apolitical ? Why not… Anyway, the lyrics are decent, they deal with, err.., life on the streets or something. The music is not so good. It’s ok, but they play really typical Italian melodic Oï. Nothing groundbreaking, I was expecting more. yougang@virgilio.it (Y.B.)
-
SLEAZY JOKE "mafia politica" Cd (Canard musique)
I liked their first Ep alright, as well as their live performances. When I first heard this Cd, I thought it was good, but the more I listen to it, the more I find it "ok". The digipack is nice, and the sound quality is great, which helps. The band plays raw punk-rock with hateful social lyrics, they remind me a lot of STEROIDS with a less Hc approach to things. If you’re into French punk-rock, you should like it. http://www.canardmusique.org (Y.B.)
